Daniel Senekal, MD
Dr. Daniel Senekal, Medical Director of Peace Lasik Centre in Grande Prairie, Alberta, is a well-respected member of the International Refractive community.Â
Dr. Senekal started his Medical career in South Africa. He obtained his Medical Degree from the University of Stellenbosch, whereafter he practiced as Family Physician in a rural community for five years. While studying for his Masters degree in family medicine in 1997, Dr Senekal underwent Lasik surgery at the Cape Eye Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa.
This immediately drew his attention away from family medicine, and he started his studies in Ophthalmology at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein, South Africa under the mentorship of the world-renowned Professor Andries Stulting.
Dr Senekal completed his studies in Ophthalmology in 2002 Cum Laude, and received the highest honours for academic excellence from the University of the Free State. He also obtained his Fellowship of the Colleges of Surgeons of South Africa in Ophthalmology in the same year. He not only excelled in refractive surgery, but also attended an advanced course in Vitreo-Retinal surgery in Bremen, Germany, and practiced as General Ophthalmologist in Cape Town, South Africa for five years.
He was a speaker at several South African Ophthalmology Society conferences on refractive and cataract surgery. He was Investigator and Surgeon for an International Glaucoma Trial with the Moorfields Eye Hospital in the United Kingdom.
In 2002 Dr Senekal joined a dedicated team of Ophthalmologists at the Cape Eye Hospital, and served as Director of the Cape Eye Hospital Trust from 2002 till 2006, when he decided to relocate with his family to Canada.
Because of his love for Refractive Eye surgery, Dr Senekal established the first Laser Eye Surgery facility north of Edmonton in 2007. Peace Lasik Centre is proud to host the most advanced technology from Carl Zeiss Meditec, namely the MEL 80 Excimer Laser, combined with the CRS Master wavefront scanner and analyser, to offer customised ablation to all patients, including Wavefront-guided and Topography- guided ablation profiles.
Dr Senekal is a full-time staff member at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Grande Prairie, and has full accreditation with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta in Ophthalmology and Refractive Surgery.
